Room on the Broom

2016 International Tours. Asia, USA & Canada. Ages 3+

‘A truly theatrical feast that leaves both adults and children fully entertained’ (The List)

The witch and her cat are flying happily on their broomstick – until a stormy wind blows away the witch’s hat, bow and wand. A helpful dog, bird and frog find the witch’s lost things, and they all hop on the broom for a ride. But this broomstick’s not meant for five and – CRACK – the broom snaps in two!

When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? And will there ever be room on the broom for everyone? Songs, laughs and scary fun for children aged 3 and up (and their grown-ups), adapted from the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo.

‘55 minutes of high-energy treat’ (Sunday Times)

‘I want to see it again. Now please, mummy’ (Sunday Times reviewer’s child)

Audience feedback

Just had to write. We have been to see Room on the Broom in Basingstoke today with our three and a half year old daughter. It was fantastic!!! We all loved it. I did email you before when we came to see the Snail and the Whale earlier this year. I just don’t know how you do it each time – you turn a much loved book into a brilliant stage show which also has humour. The songs in todays show got my daughter dancing in her seat. I think we smiled all the way through. It was brilliant! The cast are so talented and we loved the puppets especially the dog and the frog! Thank you for another fab show.

Yesterday my lovely wife and I had the pleasure of taking our 3 year old son to see Room on the Broom at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. We went expecting it to be fun and completely watchable as the text it was based on was excellent. However what we see completely exceeded our expectations and we both agreed that it was one of the very best things we have ever seen. Everything about it was excellent from the simple set to the dialogue and best of all the brilliant songs. However most of all the thing that made the show so fantastic was the amazing cast! Yvette Clutterbuck’s zany witch was a perfect combination with Emma Maclennan’s cat, a fine performance showing the understanding of the complex and age old relationship between cats and dogs. Luke McConnell’s performance as the bird and the dragon was great but the real show stealer in our performance was David Garrud’s dog – that is until the frog came along. Where do I begin with the Frog – everything from the accent to the movement was absolutely spellbinding. Thanks Tall Stories for one of the most memorable afternoons of theatre that we have experienced. My wife and I loved it but most importantly the biggest fan was our 3 year old son. Companies like yours are amazing and skilful in getting children interested in theatre but without dumbing things down for them. Children love a good story and will go anywhere to follow a good one! Keep up the good work.

One of the best children’s theatre productions I’ve seen. We brought 50+ 5-7 year-olds – all loved it – as did the adults. True magic!

J. Biefeld
